The Joliet Slammers are a team of the Independent Frontier League and provide a nice afternoon/evening game day experience. The Slammers name is inspired by the history of the Joliet Correctional Center that operated in Joliet from 1858 - 2002.

The main entrance to Silver Cross Field.

It is located on the edge of downtown Joliet, a block from the Amtrak Station depot and is a nice looking venue.

The day I visited was the same day Chicago was celebrating the Blackhawk's 2015 Stanley Cup championship and many individuals were seen debarking from the Amtrak after having attended the parade in downtown Chicago.

Prisoners watching the ballgame from an adjacent building down the first base line.

Notes: Joliet has a nice downtown area to visit. There's an educational and interesting Joliet Area Historical Museum worth spending an hour or two. I stayed at the Harrah's Casino Hotel downtown (just a few blocks from Silver Cross Field) but wouldn't necessarily recommend it as they didn't make me feel welcome. A nice pub to visit is the Chicago Street Pub.

View of stadium from center field.

One level of dark green seating, suites, and an open concourse makes this an eye-catching facility.

View from behind home plate.

Painting the lines.

Signing autographs.
